The 5G era will begin soon! Manufacturers of smartphones are now developing and testing products with upcoming 5G technology. The technology is expected to launch by 2019.
The International Data Corporation(IDC) predicted that India will see 5G smartphones mid next year. First Oppo tested 5G with modified R15. And now Oppo’s sister brand Vivo joined the bandwagon.
Chinese phone manufacturer announced on September 11, 2018 that it has tried a phone with 5G technology by modifying it’s recently launched NEX S smartphone. They used the Qualcomm X50 modem that was introduced in February 2018.
The device setup comprised of a non-standalone architecture model which combines both LTE and NR antennas, based on 3GPP Release 15 standards. First phase of protocol completed tests with Key-sight UXM 5G signalling.
Before Vivo, OPPO successfully tested 5G modems in recent devices. This means that both Vivo and OPPO owned by BKK Electronics are likely to be among the first smartphone players to bring in 5G technology enabled devices to the masses. Vivo’s next step will be Interoperability Data Testing (IODT) with 5G infrastructure and networking equipment with the modified NEX S.
In a recent press release, the company stated that its ultimate goal was to launch first batch of commercial 5G devices by 2019. Recently Vivo was also in news for designing world’s first in-display fingerprint scanning smartphone at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2018 in Las Vegas.
Vivo is giving a good competition to giant smartphone manufacturers. Recently, the company released two phones with in-display fingerprint scanning and introduced the technology to the Indian users in the form of Vivo X21 and Vivo NEX smartphones. Vivo X21 released in March 2018 and starts from Rs.30,390. Vivo Nex was released in June 2018 and starts from Rs.44,990.
