Yung Jake is a Los-Angeles based visual artist. Lately, he has been in the news for creating series of portraits about cartoon characters and celebs. What makes his art stand out is that he uses emojis to create these perfect portraits. Drake, Antoine Bourdain, Rihanna, Childish Gambino, DJs Steve Aoki and Diplo, Avicii and Aretha Franklin are some of the celeb faces that he recreated with his unusual emoji art.
Yung Jake who defines himself as an artist ‘born on the internet’ is also a rapper. He likes to be interviewed through text messages. His work is influenced by memes, online fame and consumer culture. Jake Patterson who grew up in NY attended the prestigious school CalArts where he learned traditional art forms. He began his career as a rapper.
The emoji artist first gained recognition in 2012 for his interactive music video – Embedded. In this HTML 5 music video, Yung Jake hijacks viewer’s screen and plays the lyrics in real time. It takes the users on a tour of his virtual rise to fame. He also created an app called AUGMENTED REAL that allowed users to view 3D avatar of the artist. He keeps updating his new songs on sound cloud – Yung Jake.
