Researchers from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics have said that they aren’t sure about the health benefits of green tea with respect to weight loss. The factor that made green tea popular was the way it worked on one’s metabolism. It has ‘catechins’ antioxidant and caffeine that help in increased metabolic rate.

The combo of green tea and caffeine enhances fat oxidation. This means that the increased metabolism helps the amount of calories burned.

According to meta-analysis in 2012, green tea induces a small amount of weight loss in people who are overweight or obese. This weight change is so small that many doesn’t even notice.

However, one must watch out for the caffeine intake – an ingredient of green tea that not many are aware of. So if in case you are having a few cups of green tea, remember your consumption of caffeine may exceed the limit. According to FDA, one must not consume 400 milligrams of caffeine in a day – a regular cup of green tea has 25 milligrams of caffeine.
